Yesterday AM we made our 9th try for the Brown-headed Nuthatches
sometimes reported from Lloyd Bowen Rd. This time it was sunny and
wind-free, and I felt lucky. Sure enough, we heard then spotted 2-3 (but
may have been more unseen) of the little mites, happily pecking away at
the bark (not cones) of the pine trees near the end of the road.

Later on we tried for pond ducks at Jefferson-Patterson park. There were
none, but along the trail to the Indian village, where a tiny remmant of
scrub borders it, we found Field, 20 Chipping, and ~5 Song Sparrows,
along with an imm White-crowned - a very rare bird in Calvert Co.
