I was on a sailing trip on the Chesapeake Bay for four days over the weekend. Saturday morning I had an adult Cave Swallow come by close to the boat. It was about 9:30, winds were gusty, observation lasted about a minute. There were also two more distant square tailed swallows traveling with it. Several Tree Swallows came by shortly after. The location was just west of a small cove called Still Pond in along the Kent County shore, north of Rock Hall and south of Great Oak.
Key features were noticed right away, the buff throat, rusty forehead, and a noticeable collar. The bird came down the side of the boat, banked and flew behind the boat for a bit. It's orange rump, grayish sides, light underside, and square tail were observed as well.
