OK, I tossed the lit match this morning and then was out for the rest of
the day. I understand that enough has been said on this subject, but I want
to make a couple of things clear.
This refuge is not in an urban or even a suburban area, it is not a few
dishes at the edge of a parking lot. It is in a large tract of woods in an
undeveloped section of Calvert County. It takes five to ten minutes to walk
far enough into the woods to arrive at the cat hutches and feeding stations,
and they are spread out for some distance within the area.
I brought it up because I think it is a totally inappropriate place for a
cat refuge, and I was hoping that someone else might agree and be spurred to
activism. I made phone calls to a county parks ranger a few years ago,
but I am only one person.
You will not find anyone who is more of a cat lover than I, and my
soft-hearted preference is for spay and release over euthanasia. However, I think
spay and release implies that the cats are returned to their point of
origin. That can't be what is taking place here.
Anyone who wishes to discuss this further is welcome to write to me off
list.
thanks, Leslie Starr
