Hi all!

I just wanted to announce the next meeting of the Prince George's Audubon Society and the Patuxent Bird Club will be held tomorrow night, Tuesday, November 10, at 7:30 pm at the College Park Airport Annex. It's sure to be an exciting talk that will interest birders and non-birders alike, and I hope you will join us there! As always, the meeting is free and open to the public. You need not be a member of either group to attend the talk. See our website (and read below for a description) to find directions, as well as information about upcoming walks, counts, etc.

Hope to see you there!

Dr. Michael J. Raupp has been a professor of entomology at the University of Maryland in College Park since 1982. Mike has always had an interest in insect and plant interactions in the landscape. The goal of his research has been to promote biological diversity in the landscape and to gain an understanding of the natural enemies that control harmful pests. He hopes his research will result in minimal dependence on synthetic pesticides, a real bonus for the birds we love.

Mike will discuss how biological diversity affects our urban forest's ability to survive what he calls the "Asian Invasion" of serious insect pests. He will cover Emerald Ash Borer, Asian Longhorn Beetle, ambrosia beetles, Sirex Woodwasp, Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, and Elongate Hemlock Scale, all of which threaten our beautiful trees in Maryland.
