Motivated by the scoter reports from Triadelphia, I made a quick check
of Little Seneca Lake from Rt 121 bridge this afternoon. No scoters but
there were 3 Long-tailed Ducks and a Bonaparte's Gull along with quite a
few Buffleheads and Ruddy Ducks and a few American Wigeon.
Earlier in the day, I had a Common Raven flyover near the intersection
of Partnership Rd and Rte 107 near Poolesville.
Towards dark on 11/22 went over to Blue Mash to watch the top of
landfill for a Short-eared Owl but struck out. Plenty of Northern
Harriers (4) though. Most I have ever seen at one time in Montgomery.
The grounds crew did a nice job trimming the willows that were blocking
the view of the big pond. Thanks to MBC President Jim Nelson for
bringing this to the attention of the folks that run the retired landfill.
