I just watched two American Crows who were engaged in what appeared to
be a battle to the death. Three other Am Crow observer/participants
took part in the melee, taking turns jabbing at the 'main event'
(A.K.A.: the two crows doing the fighting). The 'observers' didn't
appear to be taking it out on one or the other, just pecking away at
whatever bird maintained the unfortunate position of being on the
bottom at the time. I attempted to get closer to document the fight /
attack with my camera, but the two birds flew off into some nearby
trees, fighting the entire way.

It got me wondering what could possibly make crows turn on each other
so violently. I am sure someone on the listserv has some answers.
But, oh how the stress of the holidays affects us all.

Good Birding,
