Hi Everyone,

Stan Arnold called to spread the word that a Western/Clark's Grebe was reported during the Annapolis/Gibson Island CBC today. The sighting was near the mouth of the Magothy River in Cape St. Claire, Anne Arundel Co. Here are the directions as I understand them:

From Route 50, take the exit for MD-179 E/Persimmon Point Road, which becomes Cape St Claire Road. Follow Cape St Claire Road north to the T-intersection and then turn right on River Bay Road. There will soon be a park on your left. Park here, walk through the park, and scan from the beach.

These are all of the details I have for now. Hopefully someone from the count can tell us more. I am considering getting out there first thing in the morning if I can get away with it. For anyone who tries, please post both positive and negative reports. Any logistical notes about parking and so on should probably be shared as well. Thanks, and good luck!

Best birds from our section of the Pax River CBC today were five LAPLAND LONGSPURs on the runways of the naval air station (NAS). I was birding with Kyle Rambo, Jim Brighton, and John Hubbell. For the record, we also learned that there was a SNOWY OWL present on the NAS on 12/24/09, but it hasn't been seen since.

Good birding!

Bill
