The ducks are back - I'm glad to see the ice gone from the Potomac &
Anacostia Rivers in DC. Lesser Scaups were everywhere off Hains
Point. In the Potomac about 40 feet offshore I had great views of a
raft of 50 or so Lessers, with one clear Greater thrown in. A lone
male Bufflehead darted his way through the Scaups - he was in a major
hurry...not sure what for??! It was pretty funny - he looked rather
frantic.
I just took a quick look down at Anacostia Park, the only duck
activity other than Mallards were a couple Ruddys that had their
peaceful float interrupted by a speeding barge. A small barge, but
one that really seemed to be moving much faster than a barge really
should.
Cheers,
