Stephen,
Not sure about a nest, but I work in Silver Spring and have periodically seen the peregrine for the 3+ years I've worked there.  He/she frequently hangs out near the metro station (I work at NOAA direcly next to the station).  Adds a little spice to a meeting to see it fly by the window!  Jeff Shenot might be able to give a better indication of how long its been in the area.

Hi Rob and all

A month or so ago, a friend who is knowledgable about birds reported seeing a Peregrine flying between the buildings near the Silver Spring metro station, in downtown Silver Spring. Is there a nest site nearby?

Cheers

Stephen

On Wednesday morning we were surprised to see an adult Peregrine Falcon flying north paralleling Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring, carrying prey.  It passed 150-200 from our car in somewhat labored flight.

Yesterday afternoon while near the Capitol on a non-birding outing we saw an adult Bald Eagle fly a hundred yards or so over us on the National Mall, heading toward the Capitol.  A few minutes later, a Peregrine Falcon swooped and landed on top of the statue which tops the Capitol dome; it was quickly joined by a second.  In the medium distance we could still see the Bald Eagle, then saw a second and more distant eagle.
