There will be two changes to the Cecil Bird Club Field Trip on Saturday,
January 30, 2010.

1) An excavation contract has just started at the Cecil County Landfill.
For liability reasons, our group will not be able to have the field trip
there this year. Instead, the field trip will only take place at the North
East Town Park --- This is a great gull mecca where the landfill gulls
frequent.

2) I have been in bed sick for two weeks and will not be well enough by
Saturday to lead the field trip. Sean McCandless will lead the field trip
in my absence. Sean has a great track record for spotting rare gulls at the
North East Town Park. Some of the gulls that he has found in recent winters
are Black-headed Gull, Lesser Black-backed, Thayer's, Iceland, Glaucous,
Nelson's, and a possible California Gull.

Good luck to everyone. Wish I was there.

Town Park

Greetings all;
This Saturday, learn to identify the different age classes of gulls with
gull expert Gene Scarpulla. Gene will show us how to pick out the rare
gulls from the flocks of usual suspects, which include Great Black-backed,
Lesser Black-backed, Herring, Ring-billed, and possible White-winged Gulls
which have been seen in the area recently.

Meet at 8:00 a.m. near the Walmart at North East Plaza interesection of
Rtes. 272 and 40. We will carpool to our gull watching location from
there - there is limited parking. Be prepared to leave your car or offer a
ride to others.

Bring scope if you have one. Dress for extreme cold and/or wind and be
prepared for walking and then standing still while we scan the flocks. Be
aware that walking will be over rough ground, with possible muddy
conditions, and possibly up steep slopes.

Bring money for an optional thaw-out lunch at one of the seafood restaurants
in NorthEast.
