A late post on an early aft'n walk of about 3 mi. in an an elongated "loop",
using portions of several trails and bushwhacking through some woods.
A mostly cloudy day gradually gave way to clearing skies and comfortable
temp's, reaching about 45 degrees F. With the recent balmy weather, I'm
thinking many birds headed north, as there were few about here. I had a
colorful male BLUEBIRD, a single SAPSUCKER, some Starlings and a
few TV's; also, a pair of SOUTHERN SHRIKES (Mockers), during the
first part of the loop, going westward along the hedgerow bordering a
large field. A nice--what I took to be--colorful male RED FOX, with large,
bushy tail was hunting the field.

Crossing the Minebank Run via the western bridge and making my way
north and east, toward the Sherwood (?) residence, I spotted a female
KESTREL perched on power lines near the wooded ridge bordering the
northern part of the Cromwell Valley Park. It is a resident of the park, as
were a pair of RED-TAILED HAWKs, spotted hunting the same field I'd
earlier seen the fox working. As I made my way up through the woods
just north and east of the Sherwood residence, I had a nice little group of
C. CHICADEES, JUNCOs, TITs and a single FIELD SPARROW, which
joined the group. Making my way eastward through the upper meadows,
I spotted a couple more Mockingbirds, N. CARDINALS and a SONG
SPARROW. Picked up with my SongFinder, I heard a few WHITE-
THROATED SPARROWs and C. WRENS.

The return via the eastern portion of the loop through the woods and the
fields to the east, and then along the Minebank back to the car proved
uneventful. Nice walk, but could've used more avian activity.
