What kind of birds are being poisoned?

Lead is still used in fishing sinkers. Ducks can pick them up from stream/river/lake beds.

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Birds with Lead poisoning/2nd Chance Wildlife Rescue

Hi all,
This morning I took an injured Mourning Dove to 2nd Chance Wildlife Center
Gaithersburg)to see if it could be rehabbed. (Apparently a collision) I read
heir news flyer. They have been getting birds that are suffering from lead
oisoning, and want to find out the source of it. Lead shot has been phased out
ver the years, replaced by steel shot used by hunters. It should be reported to
he DNR if lead shot is being used. This poisoning trickles down the food chain.
just watched a Nat Geo show with an eagle dying from lead poisoning.
f found quick enough,(birds of prey & waterfowl) they can recover.
Hope this isn't too off topic.
Good birding,
.Ford/Bethesda, Md
