Sounds like perfectly reasonable photographic technique to me!
Reminds me how some of my friends never could understand why I sat down
right in the middle of a stream to photograph a Great Spreadwing
[dragonfly] that was perched on a twig a few inches above the water...

P.S. Did I mention that broken IKEA shelves can be used as stair
stepping exercisers? :-)
