Hi all,
I had a great day in Worcester County. Some highlights from Assateague were
9 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWs (3 at the State Park, 4 at Bayside Campground, and
2 at the boat launch just before the bridge to the island), 3 IPSWICH
SAVANNAH SPARROWs on the causeway, and 2 AMERICAN BITTERNs along the road,
as Bill mentioned in his post, the land birding was fantastic! A flock of
SNOW GEESE blocked the road and fields at South Point obscuring any field
birds there. I tried for the Common Merganser found by Brighton, Carlson,
Hubbell and Hubick at Rum Point Golf course, but the pond was completely
frozen. Ocean City Inlet was quite slow, the COMMON EIDER flock visible
today numbered 18 individuals, and low numbers of the other species. The
big highlight for me was a female EURASIAN WIGEON at Bayside Development
Pond, I have wanted to see one for quite some time, so it was very rewarding
to get to study this bird at length!!

Good Birding!
