I walked over to the Tidal Basin today and surveyed the area from the east side.

There are a lot of heavily damaged trees, including one large elm by the paddle-boat dock that toppled right into the Basin.

The Tidal Basin is about 2/3 covered with ice, and there are dead gizzard shad underneath. As a consequence, there is a small gathering of gulls (several dozen), mostly Ring-bills, equal numbers of Greater Black-backed and Herring, and at least 3 first-year Lesser Black-backed gulls.

The Ohio Drive bridge is poorly shoveled and difficult to negotiate, so I headed back to the Mall, where I saw flocks on robins and starlings near the National Museum on American History, all brought into the air by a passing Cooper's Hawk
