Greetings,

My last two drives into work from Cecil County to southern Harford County (exit 100 to exit 77 on I-95) have been nice and sunny. Equally delightful has been the immense number of migrating waterfowl that have been present.

Yesterday, 8 March, I noted two large skeins of Snow Goose (estimated around 300 total) and numerous Canada Goose flocks (estimated 2000 total).

Today numbers were even higher. Snow Goose totals easily reached 500 and Canada Goose numbers were in the 3000-3500 range. There were a scattering of snow geese mixed in with some of the Canada flocks as well. Today, I also noted at least 50 Tundra Swan in various loose groups; 20 or so of the Tundra Swan were seen in obvious formation with a large group of Canada Geese over the Susquehanna River.

Other notables included three Bonaparte’s Gulls which buzzed the Hatem Bridge over the Susquehanna River and a lone Pileated Woodpecker which flew over the highway near the Chesapeake House in Cecil.

Side note: Robins were singing in the yard this morning and turtles were hauled out of the mud basking in the sunshine yesterday!

60 degrees today!
