DC/MD Birders,

I tried to bird as much as possible today while showing some out of town friends around the Mall and the Potomac, but you know how it is. They were thrilled, however, to watch a Bald Eagle (3-4 year) take an unsuccessful dive into the Tidal Basin. The highlight of the day for me was an adult Peregrine we watched while standing on the steps of the Lincoln. Beautiful!

Big numbers of Ring-billed Gull on the Potomac but not much waterfowl. The DC Cormorants were looking lovely and two Pied-billed Grebes were fishing in the Tidal Basin. A small flock of Ceder Waxwings zipped over along the mall at one point as well. Hain's Point was closed (ditto for the walk around the Tidal Basin) as the Potomac was up higher than I have seen it in ages reaching the tops of benches overlooking the basin.
