Hi all,
Just a note to those who inquired about coming by to view the Screech Owl. I was out all day yesterday and today so did not have time to reply earlier. At any rate, this bird is not the best "viewable" owl I have seen. The bird sits in a cavity on the edge of my neighbors woods, at least 100 yards away, and the viewing angle is probably 35-45 degrees (from head-on). So under ideal conditions, in the late afternoon when the sun is hitting the hole or the bird (and from behind the observer), it is still a good ways away. Details even with a scope are not precise. I got a photo or two, when I hopped the fence and walked out into my neighbors field (on top of 12 inches of snow). This I would not recommend, as I have only met him once and it would be trespassing without permission. So given these parameters if you are still interested in making a trip up here, please call me during reasonable daytime hours on my cell at 301-502-0018. The best time for me to be able to help you see the bird is between 5-6 PM, no earlier or later. This week I am not available Monday, or Wednesday. We are going out of town the end of next week (March 30-early April).
