My husband Bob and I saw the Tufted Duck at 1:00 this afternoon, along with
the Scaup and a pair of Shovelers. We then went over to the Chesapeake
Environmental Center--no one ever told us that you need to consult a tide
table before driving in there. When we arrived the water was halfway across
the road, and we foolishly assumed the tide was on its way out...after
spending about 45 minutes at the center, where we saw mostly basking
turtles, a displaying Osprey, and what I think may have been two
Brown-headed Nutchatches wa-a-a-y up in the tops of a Loblolly Pine, we
drove out and to our surprise, the water covered the road about 4 inches
deep, with a noticeable current running across. The road was flooded in two
spots, making us wish we had brought our 4WD pickup instead of the car. We
got through, but how deep does it get out there?

One thing I heard there was a musical see-see-see from something unseen. It
was fairly high pitched, but not as high as a kinglet.

Along Route 301 we saw three perched Red-tailed Hawks and near Church Hill
there were three Kestrels. Along the Sassafras River, we saw three adult
Bald Eagles and 10 Black Vultures.
