Yesterday I reported that we heard an Eastern Wood Pewee singing its "pee-a-weee" call around our neighborhood in Bethesda, Montgomery County. Mike Bowen and George Jett both wrote me correctly pointing out that this is a week early according to the Yellow Book and that we might have been hearing a Starling.

We have Starlings nesting in the neighbor's tree and they have been very vocal. At first I thought it might be them, but the pee-a-wee sound moved around the area, and the Starlings seemed to be staying put around their nest hole and in a spruce tree nearby. I would have liked to have seen the bird making the sound to confirm it. I have been listening to the Starlings yesterday afternoon and this morning, and they haven't made a Pewee sound. So I still lean toward it being an actual Pewee, but without a sighting I can't be sure.
