Peter Osenton and I birded several spots in Queen Anne's and Anne Arundel Counties yesterday.  We had our FOY GREEN HERON at Terrapin Park.  At Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center highlights include a NORTHERN GANNET resting on the water, 5 species of warbler (including COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, and PALM WARBLER), and a large concentration of ducks in Marshy Creek (approx. 2200 SCAUP SP. and 80 RUDDY DUCKS).  We were also very surprised to see 2 BARRED OWLS fly out of the pines and across the marsh to another hummock.  At Jug Bay we had the same assortment of gulls and terns (and similar numbers!) that Jeff Shenot mentioned, as well as yellowthroats and palm warblers.  Gnatcatchers were super common.  Were able to tally 71 species for the day, not bad for mid-April!

Of the non-avian sort, herps were out in force at Jug Bay, highlighted by 2 black racers and an eastern ribbon snake.  Also had a nice assortment of butterflies yesterday: tiger swallowtail, zebra swallowtail, falcate orange tip, spring azure, orange sulphur, cabbage white, and mourning cloak.
