After work, I birded a few spots along the Patuxent River in PG County. The unmitigated highlight was finding a Cattle Egret on Mt. Calvert Road, following a few horses, feeding on the insects that they rustled up. This was a coveted county bird for me - a surprisingly infrequently reported bird in the county, especially frustrating too because there are many spots on the other side of the Patuxent that host dozens of Cattle Egrets every year.

After Mount Calvert, I walked around Merkle, where it was very pleasant and birdy. Highlights were a Blue-headed Vireo, a lingering Hermit Thrush, and Maryland's FOY Scarlet Tanager.
