Yesterday at McKeldin the only new birds were 1 Yellow-throated Vireo - heard only, 2 Black-&-white Warblers - heard only, and 1 Ovenbird. Tomorrow I will lead a field trip here which meets at 7:30 AM at the Marriottsville parking lot next to the railroad.

This morning I birded with Keith Costley and Debbie Terry. We first visited the New Windsor wetlands. Interesting sightings there were: Canada Goose - a pair with 7 downy young, 1 Green Heron (my first), 1 Osprey, migrating Broad-winged Hawks - at least a dozen scattered and very high, 1 Greater Yellowlegs, Snipe - 10, 12, 15 - who knows how many we flushed, Blue Jay - over 100 migrating in small flocks, Yellow Warbler - 1 singing male (my first) , and 2 Yellowthroats (my first).

We also visited Little Pipe Creek Park in Union Bridge. Notable birds here were: 1 cock Pheasant - the first I have seen in the county in many years (and it was very approachable), Common Loon - a flock of 11 flying over, 1 Snipe, over 100 Blue Jays migrating in small flocks, 1 Purple Martin (my first) , and 1 adult male Baltimore Oriole (my first).

In addition single singing Vesper Sparrows were seen at traditional territories - Wakefiel d Valley Road X Wilt Road and Springdale Road X Jasontown Road. A surprise was a singing Savannah Sparrow on Ebert Road which may be a new breeding territory.
