Took my regular Hunting Quarter Rd count this morning and came back
through the fields. Was hoping to repeat yesterday's good count of migrants
in my yard but it wasn't to be. Still a good day with a total of 55
species.
Arrivals were Solitary Sandpiper(4), Great Crested Flycatcher (1), E.
Kingbird (1), Red-eyed Vireo (3), Gray Catbird (3) (had one here over the
winter), Yellow Warbler (1), Black-throated Blue Warbler (1) and an
Ovenbird.
Found my first brood (7 small young) of Canada Geese in the large
impoundment. Also had a Northern Cardinal nest with 4 eggs.
Other birds of note were: 11 Great Egrets when I started my count.
When I returned about 4 hours later I could only see 6 and they had moved
further east in the large impoundment, an adult Bald Eagle perched high in a
sycamore along the road, and two dueling Barred Owls.
