A Sandhill Crane was seen at the Cromwell Valley Park HawkWatch today, April 27th, at 11:40 AM. This bird was not very high and stayed in view for a couple of minutes, making several slow circles before heading off towards the east-north-east. Phil Goldstein, Brad Cernohorsky, Joe Stag and I were thrilled to see such a rare visitor here, only the second such sighting I know of. About a dozen birders with the Baltimore Bird Club had just left the watch-site moments earlier! (Sorry Kevin!)
The hawk count for the day was one of our best in Spring. The largest kettle of Broad-winged Hawks numbered about 60 birds.
