A female (?) R-T Hummingbird has been visiting the feeder today - total visits are up to 5 as of a few minutes ago. The last observed hummer visit of a bird seen one time was on 4/28. They seem late this year, but hopefully this will be the beginning of the invasion. The bird today has exhibited behavior i haven't notice before - sitting on the (humzinger) feeder perch and rocking with its head raised and its tounge at times protruding about a quarter-inch thru parted beak in between feeding sessions. The feeder is mostly out of the wind.

The Bobolinks were seen on Lees lane on WED or THURS evening near the intersection with Burkittsville Rd (MD 17) in the first field east of the Needwood Farms buildings. The first sighting was of a bird perched in a tree next to the road. Later i observed males flying above the field briefly before dropping out of view. I only noticed a few and they were quite a distance from the road...

A pair of Barn Swallows may a brief low level tour of the yard in the windy conditions in late morning although neither i nor any of my neighbors were mowing to help stir up insects for an easy meal.
