About a week ago I was awakened at first light by a strange noise emanating
from my bathroom. At first I thought it was a plumbing problem, but when
I went to investigate, found it was only a bird attacking the glass.
Over the years I have seen this happen many times, usually by a cardinal,
but also other birds. I had a pileated one year attack my rear view mirror
and watched a vermilion do the same in Arizona some time ago. But this was
a first: a Great-crested flycatcher. He has been back each morning since.
