Gail:

eBird shows widespread sightings in Maryland with the exception of southern Maryland. I haven't heard one in Edgewater this spring and we whiffed on them during May Count. I know they're not common in Calvert and St. Mary's but we usually get at least a few on May Count! Not sure what happened to your local birds but eBird shows a fairly even distribution of them on the northern side of the DC beltway.

Subject: [MDOSPREY] House Wren puzzle

Hi all --

Barry and I just returned from over 3 weeks' out of the country and are
astonished to find that neither of our two House Wren boxes (carefully
cleaned in early April) are occupied. Neither is our neighbor's wren house.
Barry walked through the neighborhood this morning and said he didn't hear
any House Wrens singing, either.

Both our two wren houses have been occupied every year since we moved here
in 1993, so this is rather unprecedented.

What are others finding re their own "local" wrens?
