Hi Everybody,
The Kent County Bird Club will be running an all day trip to the shores
of Delaware Bay on Saturday, 22 May. We will meet participants at the
Dollar General parking lot in Chestertown across from the end of Spring
St. (and between Maple St /MD-213 and Philosopher's Terrace) at 8:00 AM.
Folks who wish to meet us at Prime Hook or en route should give us as
call. We usually work in a stop for participants at the park and ride at
the junction of MD-404 and U.S. 50 in Wye Mills.
We plan to cover the bay shore from Prime Hook north to Mispillion
Light. The current forecast for Saturday is partly sunny with a chance
of thunderstorms and temperatures in the 70s. Participants should bring
along rain gear, a jacket, and sun screen, although of course the
forecast is subject to change. With the new moon high tide last week
there should be some horseshoe crab eggs and numbers of shorebirds and
others taking advantage of the food. Particularly numerous species
should include Semipalmated Sandpiper, Ruddy Turnstone, Red Knot and
Laughing Gull. Coastal birds will also be present including Clapper
Rail, Seaside Sparrow, Boat-tailed Grackle, Black Skimmer, Snowy Egret,
and Tricolored Heron.
Good birding,
