After a fantastic "86 species in 6 hours" morning yesterday in DC with
Will McPhail, I decided to take it easy and sleep in this morning.
Well, actually, somehow my phone ended up on mute and I didn't hear
the 6am "gotta get up and go warbling" alarm. And of course missed
the early phone calls about the Painted Bunting at Haines Point. It
was all good - the sleep was welcome.
So, my wife & baby Jack and I went off to Roosevelt Island in DC later
in the morning looking for the Cliff Swallows - Jess has never seen
any. No luck with those - earlier in the week a crow was flying under
the bridge and coming up with large chunks of swallow nests. I'm
hoping the crow didn't scare away the Cliff Swallows. There were
plenty of Barn Swallows around.
It did wind up being a good warbler morning on the Island though - my
first DC Wilson's, as well as:
Black Throated Blue
Magnolia
Chestnut Sided
Blackpoll
Common Yellowthroat
