The Upland Sandpiper was cooperatively poking through the grasses on Oland Rd, Frederick Co, around 9 this morning.
Roadside, we found a freshly dead sparrow. It looks in most respects to be a typical Grasshopper--small, strong median crown stripe, yellow-orangy lores, chestnut centers for some feathers on back, breast unstreaked, orangy buffy above and creamy buffy below--but--the bend of the wing is vibrant deep yellow. That is characteristic of Henslow's; can Grasshoppers show this? Rising says Henslow's are not know to hybridize.
