Jane Kostenko and I arrived at 8:30, later than we wanted due to the backup from an accident near New Hampshire Avenue. If traffic had been flowing normally, we would have arrived in time to see the bird. We were at the next access point upriver from Evelyn and saw her downriver when we arrived. Two women, Judy and the other we didn't catch her name, showed up and had talked to Evelyn. We stayed until around 10:45 and stopped at Evelyn's location where Joel Martin and Bob Ringler were watching in vain.

This morning I was along the river, first access upriver of Violette's lock and the Arctic Tern appeared ~ 8:20-25, flying above the rocks on the VA side. I saw it well in my scope, swooping and diving, turning around... and disappearing behind the large sycamores close to the VA shore. Regretfully I did not have time to try and find it and I did not see it again within the next half hour. A small consolation was a juvenile bald eagle.
