Joanne,
I saw the Moorhen at Schoolhouse Pond this morning between 8 and 9. It was easily seen from the observation deck in the rear of the pond as it fed with the Wood Ducks. I could not see it from the street side. Keep trying.

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Common Moorhen?
I went to Schoolhouse Pond last night (Friday 16) and saw no Moorhen. It was actually VERY quiet, birdwise, and very still and very hot, weatherwise. Since I also did not locate any Wood Duck, and the Moorhen has been reported to hang with the Wood Duck, I thought I'd try again this AM (Saturday).
I arrived at the Pond around 10:30 AM and spent 1 1/2 hours carefully looking everywhere I could. I was able to locate many Wood Duck, but no Moorhen at all. The consolation bird was a wonderful Little Blue Heron.
If anyone sees this Moorhen, please post. I'd like to try again, but need some incentive.
I'll also be trying for the Sandhill Crane tomorrow afternoon. I think that means that those of you who want to see him better get out this afternoon and tomorrow morning - before he flies off to elude me! (No, it's not really that bad - I do catch a few chases, now and again!)
