Bruce Peterjohn and David Holmes were at my house
this morning to band Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
and we had a record setting day. They banded 39
new birds and had 10 recaptures from previous
years for a total of 49 birds. We tried for 50 but
the last several birds we caught were recaptures
from earlier in the day so we gave it up.

Two of the recaptures were birds banded here in
2007 as adult birds, so they are in at least their
5th year of life.

One hatch year male that we banded this morning
did not seem to learn his lesson about going into
the trap - we recaptured him 10 times.

In addition, we passed the 700 mark for number of
hummingbirds banded at my house since we started
banding in 2007.

My house is outside of Havre de Grace, MD next to
Susquehanna State Park.

The eagle looked down on the river below
And he wrapped his wings round him and he fell
like a stone
And the big salmon fought but the talons held true
And he shuddered as the world turned from silver
to blue
