Great idea but that price really does hurt! You might stop by a gun
store and check out the rifle harnesses that hunters and military
personnel use for toting their long arms. Something might be easily
adapted to carrying a tripod for a lot less money.
If you're feeling crafty this guy shows how to build a 3 point harness
(which you can buy at Cabella's, etc.) for $11. He has good photos
showing how the sling works. You'd want to use some kind of quick
disconnect clips for a tripod though. I might try making this one
myself, I use a length a rope to tote my tripod like this but it isn't
even close to being comfortable.

I also came across a single point harness for $35 that might work if you
could comfortably twist it down to carry the tripod from the hip, and it
has a quick disconnect that would be
