The highlight of my luncthtime walk around Schoolhouse Pond was close views of a Louisiana Waterthrush. The bird was walking/foraging along the edge of Federal Branch, which is the small creek which runs along the back side of the Schoolhouse Pond. The bird was visible along the creek from the main trail around the pond, walking, bobbing, calling and occasionally pecking at the mud and water's edge. I got close looks at the bird and was able to determine that it was not a migrant Northern Waterthrush. Also, I got a fleeting view of the Common Moorhen in its usual location with the Wood Ducks. The bird has been extremely difficult to spot in the vegetation this week.
