Lastly, I had a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird at the feeder this morning. Surprisingly, this is the first hummer I have had at the feeder all summer! What's up with this?

I was asking myself the same question in the spring. April before this year had always been a sure thing for Hummers...then i thought...BP's oil blowout...could they be responsible for this too...well maybe...

But then summer came and the hummers were back in force! I watched a trio do a dance around my Humzinger 3-port feeder this evening. No they can't just "all get along" and feed peaceably together - fighting is the thing! It was funny to watch the lone, tiny male refuse to be denied his turn.

I've never had another type of feeder, but i would suggest that for most, buying the absolutely smallest size possible is the way to go. My Humzinger-3 would hold more than the 5 ounces i use for a refill, but at the moment that will last 1.5 days and ensures that the feed is fresh during the dog days.
