Jane and I were birding at Pt. Lookout with Marty Cribb recently. He is part
time mate on the Smith Island cruise. He said that the influx of Wilson's
Storm-petrels peaked in June and ebbed in July. I was under the incorrect
impression that they moved into the Bay in late summer but apparenly, being here
for the austral winter, they arrive in time for boreal summer. Makes sense.
Anyway, if you want WISPs in the Bay, better take the Smith Island cruise a lot
earlier in the season!
Of course if a tropical system blows through the area, all bets are off. It's a
Catch-22, though because of the destructive force that brings in the good birds.
Be careful what you ask for. The last one blew several trees down on our house
but netted Jane and me our life Calvert County Black Terns.

We didn't get any pelagic birds but I kept expecting Sooty and Bridled Terns
to fly by. Maybe the next time. Until then I hope to get my pelagic fix this
Sunday on the trip out of Lewes, DE.
