Hi Everyone,

Thanks to all for the responses to my post about how to see Upland Sandpipers at Salisbury Airport. I had figured my one post would complete the topic. Surprise!

Sounds like I should provide further information about my viewing spot along Airport Rd (a public rd):

I have no reason whatsoever to consider use of the small parking lot along Airport Rd as trespassing. The lot is unsigned, immediately adjacent to Airport Rd, and outside of the chainlink fence. I have frequently seen (and waved to) folks inside the fence who did not seem at all concerned about my presence.

Sounds like Leo also has a good way to view the area.

Birders have lost a lot of ground in recent years (landfills, dams, wastewater treatment plants, Sabal Palm Sanctuary!!!!!!!!, etc.). Thanks to Phil and Leo for their comments here--I certainly agree.

I advocate being friendly and respectful when visiting the airport or anywhere else. It is in our best interest--and simply polite and more fun--to be nice to those we meet. Should a need arise to discuss birding with the Salisbury Airport, I'd be happy to do so. In the meantime, I honestly don't think we're doing anything wrong.

Folks have birded the perimeter of the Salisbury Airport for years. Fooks Rd is an eBird HotSpot, as is the Salisbury Airport. I often bird along the grassland portion of Twilley's Bridge Rd.--also part of the airport perimeter, which still has Northern Bobwhite and also Eastern Meadowlarks and Grasshopper Sparrows.

So please come down and enjoy our birds!

Have fun,
