Dear All

Thanks for the post from Jason Hall. I went down to Cleveland Park this evening to see the roost which was very nice. The birds are roosting in the chimneys of an apartment block just north of the Cleveland Park metro on the eastern side of Connecticut Ave. We arrived at 7.40pm at which time there were about 500 birds circling but many appeared to be dropping in already so the numbers didn't really build up much over the following 20 mins, but at around 8pm the swirl probably peaked at about 1000 or so birds and dwindled down to about 50 or so by 8.20pm. Very nice and highly recommended.

I must admit that I had been wondering for the last five years where all the swifts that pass over out house in the evening were roosting. I had assumed that it was much further away so it's nice to know that we have our own roost in the 'hood.

We saw just one Nighthawk - I thought we would see more as there's lots of sky on offer at the location.

Cheers

Gary Allport
