This evening Fred Shaffer and I walked around Governor Bridge Natural
Area. I spotted the GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER not too far from where I had
it with Jeff Shenot last night. If you walk down the narrower gravel
road from the parking lot that heads to the canoe launch, you'll get to
an opening with a small pond on your right. You can go left and down a
small hill to the river and canoe launch, or you can go right on a path
that heads into the woods. The Golden-winged was at the opening of the
woods on the right path. It was feeding with several other warblers,
including at least one Tennessee Warbler.
Fred was keeping the list, which gave me a much welcomed break, but here
are some of the other highlights/warblers:
Least Flycatcher
Tennessee Warbler
Northern Parula
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Magnolia Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
American Redstart
Prothonotary Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
I suspect the Golden-winged will move on with the weather change
tonight, but hopefully some new birds move in behind it.
