For those of you who might be interested, the planet Jupiter is currently
making an unusually close and bright appearance in the S.E. quadrant of the
early evening sky. I was out the last two nights at Gravelly Point (just
north of National Airport) from about 9:30 to 10:30, and was rewarded with
stellar (to coin a phrase) looks at Jupiter, it's moons, and even the cloud
bands on the planet. I'll be back out tonight, because about 11:00 p.m.
EST, it is supposedly going to be possible to see the great Red Spot as it
transits, or travels across the face of, Jupiter facing the earth. I'm
anxiously awaiting the chance to see this tonight.
Everything I have seen was with my 82mm, 25/75 power, spotting scope. Have
fun if you go have a look.
