  Hi All,

We knew today might be interesting when Nancy stepped out on the porch
and had 7 warbler species including TENNESSEE, Black-throated Green,
Black-and-white, and Blackpoll. We did not get to act on that knowledge
until after our shop-sitting at Eastern Neck NWR from 1 till 4 PM.

Eastern Neck was in top form in the drizzle. We had 13 warbler species
including, a NASHVILLE, 2 CAPE MAY, 5 Western Palms, 2 CANADA, an
immature female MOURNING (Ingleside Rd just beyond woods on left in
hedgerow), and 2 Northern Waterthrushes. Flycatchers included 1
YELLOW-BELLIED and 3 LEAST. We also had a Pied-billed Grebe (Marsh
Overlook behind the Lodge), 2 calling Great Horned Owls behind the
Lodge, 15 Wild Turkeys on Ingleside Rd, 2 VEERIES, 2 SWAINSON'S
THRUSHES, and 4 Brown-headed Nuthatches (entrance rd south of Tubby Cove
lot). It was hard getting off the island this evening, but we ran out of
light eventually. Our e-bird report is appended below.

Good birding,

Observing Nature is like unwrapping a big pile of presents every time you take a walk.

Location: Eastern Neck NWR
Observation date: 9/12/10
Notes: Overcast, rainy mostly drizzle, 65-70 deg F., windless. Second observer: Nancy Martin. Eastern Neck in top flight form. Mourning Warbler was an immature female bright yellow underparts, long undertail coverts, broken buffy eye-ring, yellow throat with hood margin broken. Call a flat pinched "squick". On Ingleside Road about a half mile before picnic area. Nuthatches along entrance road in mixed pines and willow oaks. Thriteen warbler species impressive. Nancy had four additional species at Chesapeake Landing this morning, so 17 (!) total species today.
