Hi all --

Pretty good morning at Wheaton Regional Park -- though things quieted down
early (bright sunny day -- typical) the birders present saw a nice
selection. The seasons are turning, we had our first YELLOW-BELLIED
SAPSUCKER and BLUE-HEADED VIREOS of the season. Other birders (Rob Hilton,
Lisa Shannon, Linda Friedland, Evelyn --) doing a slightly different area,
had a great YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT (which we dipped on, grrr!) and also
re-found the YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER from yesterday, still in same viny
tangle. We all enjoyed some small kettles of BROADWINGS, including three
very low, taking off from near-by trees.

Birds of interest: (these are only our totals, unless indicated otherwise)

Green Heron - 1
BROADWINGED HAWK - 29
Red-shouldered Hawk - 2
Red-tailed Hawk - 1
Sharpshinned Hawk - 5 (all but one high overhead)
Ruby-throated Hummingbird - 2
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER - 1
Yellow-shafted Flicker - 25+
Eastern Wood-pewee - 2
Eastern Phoebe - 2

LEAST FLYCATCHER - 1
Empid sp. - 1 or 2
Red-eyed Vireo - 12
BLUE-HEADED VIREO - 5
PHILADELPHIA VIREO - 1 (seen by others)
Scarlet Tanager - 4
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 4
Swainson's Thrush - 3
House Wren - 8
Brown Thrasher - 1
Black-and-White Warbler - 4
Black-throated Green Warbler - 8
Chestnut-sided Warbler - 6
Magnolia Warbler - 15
Nashville Warbler - 2 (together, feeding low on Mile-a-Minute berries)
Northern Parula - 1
American Redstart - 10
Tennessee Warbler - 3
Common Yellowthroat - 8
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT - 1 (seen by others)
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 15+ (some really brilliant fall males)

Quite a few Robins flying over just after sunrise, but fewer of these (and
Catbirds) every day.
