I met Barbara Gearhart at Washington Monument State Park on South Mountain
Sunday morning to see what the wind shift had brought in. Mostly, there
seemed to be lots of Black-throated Green warblers around. We found three
or four of them in one of the little trees right next to the parking lot.
Soon after, Babara found us three Cape May Warblers in another of the
little trees, and we had nice looks as they moved from tree to tree. Later,
over behind the ranger's house she found a Philadelphia vireo; and we also
had a Red-eyed vireo, and three Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers. The park was also
full of Red-breasted Nuthatches; we saw at least 6 -8 birds and maybe more
(looks like it may be an invasion year for the RBN this year). The raptor
flight was a bit slow while I was there as the wind was very light.
