I spent this morning (Saturday,October 2) at Governor Bridge Natural
Area in eastern Prince George's County. The highlights -- PURPLE FINCH,
Red-Breasted Nuthatch, Junco, White-throated Sparrows and a Brown
Creeper -- did a better job than the weather of making the day feel like
late fall. Also of interest were a Lincoln's Sparrow and a Scarlet
Tanager sporting crisp, thin, white wingbars.

Oh, there were lots of warblers too. Nothing unusual but 9 species if
you include those seen by the other birders I ran into this morning. My
sightings (in decreasing order of abundance) were Myrtle, Black-throated
Green, Magnolia, Yellowthroat, Black-throated Blue, Yellow Palm, Black
and white and Chestnut-sided. Not bad for a day in October away from
any concentration point.
