Hi Folks,
A routine survey at the Swan Creek/Cox Creek facility near the Key
Bridge produced several new seasonal arrivals, the highlight of which
was a SEDGE WREN, well viewed at close range in some vegetation below
the rim of the north dredge cell. I was on the bird for 8-10 seconds
for a diagnositic view, but it flushed before I could get the scope
set up for an attempted digiscope. I could not refind it, and it did
not respond to my ipod.
Other birds or numbers of note were 70+ CASPIAN TERNS on the sand bars
in the south cell, first of season BLACK DUCKs (2) and GREEN-WINGED
TEAL (25), first of season WHITE-THROATED SPARROWs (6), and a surprise
CAPE MAY WARBLER. Also, nearly 100 CHIMNEY SWIFTs probably coming in
to roost in the large smokestack on the property. LITTLE BLUE HERONs
continue in good numbers and I had 12 today (5 adults and 7 white
imms), all in the mitigated wetland.
