I never took a rehab course, but was acquainted with the late Gerda Deterer, who was Wild Bird Rescue.  Comfort, warmth, are great ideas.  She told me on a number of occasions not to force water into a bird.  Having water near however, seems like a good idea.

Dehydration is a major concern so you should probable give it water by hand with a syringe, esp. if its not drinking on its own. Food should not be an immediate concern.
