An early lunch-time walk produced these highlights:
DC Veteran's Memorial: A small flock of titmice, chickadees and a couple of White-breasted nuthatches, in the area east of the memorial which still has some understory.
Constitution Gardens: A very large feeding flock, composed primarily of Yellow-rumped warblers and Ruby-crowned kinglets, also several Palm warblers (yellow variety) and Eastern phoebes. In some shrubs south of the pond I found a hummingbird, which looked very like a first-year Ruby-throated (brassy color, short bill). Any more, I hesitate to be definitive about late hummingbirds.
No hawks of any sort did I see.
In the Ripley Garden, Janet the gardener reported that today she has been grubs to a fledgling Catbird (which I looked for but did not see).
