Saturday at New Windsor there were duck hunters in the wetland so I did
not stay long there. A Merlin flew by and White-crowned Sparrows were
singing. Later at Hashawha best birds were: 1 Harrier migrating, 1 RAVEN
(heard only), 1 Winter Wren (heard only), numerous Ruby-crowned Kinglets,
100 Cedar Waxwings, 1 LINCOLN'S SPARROW, 1 White-crowned Sparrow, and
several Purple Finches. No Black-capped Chickadees or Siskins yet. At
Cranberry Reservoir were 350 Canada Geese, 6 Mallards, a pair of Hooded
Mergansers (my first of the fall), and 4 Ruddy Ducks.
Today at the upper end of Liberty Lake which is now below the Route 140
bridge I found 185 Canada Geese, 3 Black Ducks (my first of the fall), 5
Mallards, 4 Hooded Mergansers, 1 Great Blue Heron, 1 GREAT EGRET, 37
Killdeer, and 1 Lesser Yellowlegs.
